Permit me to first appreciate and thank the Almighty God for granting us yet another  opportunity to assemble here at this point in time after about. A majority of you was here some three years ago. I welcome you all to the ecclesiastical province of Jos, specifically to the Archdiocese of Jos, to deliberate and interact on an issue of great importance in the life of the Church and in the communities in which we live. Each year the pope’s message reiterates the indispensable role the media plays in the in evangelization. We have come to actively and consciously contribute from our wealth of experience as communicators. Our task therefore is to cross breed ideas with the hope of marshalling out strategies to enhance our work as image makers of the Nigerian Church , but more importantly as agents of evangelization.

I thank  this prestigious association for the choice of Jos province as venue for this occasion, notwithstanding the over exaggerated tension, fear and insecurity associated with this part of the country, as often depicted by some media outlets. Your courage and determination to come to Jos is in fact a demonstration of your commitment to service. It shows how great the value you attach to your office, not just as journalists but as corrective agents of the society.

My dear colleagues, We are here because we are convinced of the interconnectedness that exists between media and the Word of God. His Holiness Pope Francis in his message of the World Communication Day, calls it a Fruitful Encounter, that is a productive encounter. Let us not fail the church that has entrusted to us such an invaluable responsibility. Therefore, we are not a product of mere chance. As an organization, we are a product of careful and conscious selection by our Bishops. I pray that we maximally use this opportunity, to make the Church relevant to our society, especially in this Year of Mercy. Once more welcome to Jos.  May the Lord grant us a fruitful deliberation. Thank you all.
